Sports Carnival Reflections 2009

Sports Carnival Reflections

Gladys Tang, 3D1.

Our annual sports carnival was held on the 27th of March, Friday. Students had been training hard the past few weeks in anticipation of this special event. Even the teachers were all geared up and ready to enjoy themselves to the maximum on this non-teaching day!

First up was rollerblading held in the basketball court. Although there weren’t any competitions involved, it was a good opportunity for those who signed-up to experience rollerblading, especially for many of the first-timers. Look! Even the teachers were participating actively.
Mrs Fong, the usually strict DISCIPLINE teacher, let her hair down and had only one goal in mind, which is to have FUN!

This is the first year our school has ever brought in kickboxing, unlike the previous years when aerobics was conducted. Indeed, kickboxing received much better responses as compared to aerobics. Students were so indulged in the fun of “kicking” and “boxing” that nothing else seemed more important than following the conductors’ instructions. Well, who knows? These skills might just come in handy in the future!

Frisbee appeared to be nothing new to the students, who were intently focused on the game. The disc-shaped object flew to and fro as the winning team emerged victorious while the other, succumbed to exhaustion. However, our students did not give up and continued fighting hard for the honour of their class. They truly exhibited our school value of Perseverance.

Captain’s Ball, which was opened only for the lower secondary students’ participation as an inter-class competition, is a simple game that many know. However, it requires stamina, perseverance and most importantly, teamwork. Easy as it seems, it actually requires rigorous trainings, which the students had been going through for the past few weeks. Their efforts did not go down the drain as our students displayed obvious school values during their play despite being under the scorching sun.

Who says teachers of higher authority only work and do not engage in such youthful activities? Just take a look at our Principal Mrs Tan, who locked her gaze on the archery board, aiming for bull’s-eye

Tchoukball is a unique game that uses trampoline-like boards to score a point. To ensure that the ball bounces off the net and touches the ground before the opponent catches it definitely isn’t easy. As it is a new game to all of us, many weren’t professional at it. However, our students took it well and adapted to the special rules of the game, which once again, brings in our school value of Adaptability. Well done Clementeens!
Floorball is a dangerous game that could cause serious injuries if one does not have good control of the stick. Although many were hit, they stayed strong, spurred on by the encouragement of their fellow classmates and friends. Were you one of the victims? (:

To round up, this year’s sports carnival was certainly a successful one with the help of the students and teachers’ active participation. As such, we would like to thank everyone and would appreciate if you could pen down your comments about this event at the tagboard or under the comments column. Also, feel free to suggest ways this event can be improved and we’ll consider your useful suggestions. Thank you!
